Any discussion on which players are available for the draft can be added in this thread. Ask away, and we will try to come to an agreement.
as per Ty's request;
Just keep the draft going.....I will address this in another thread....I have to do a coaching clinic to coach my kids lacrosse so I will try to post....
If josh can open a discussion thread this would be my question...
1. Did you know he existed? Because I didnt.
2. Would you really have taken him before Touissant, Hoffman and Finnegan who all went recently?.....
The guy is 18 and unproven against any level of significance and will miss half this year just waiting to sign. .....so I don't think its a big deal because there are guys I'd much rather have.....he just gets more hype because he's a FA.....anyway post a discussion thread and we can have a friendly chat about it...
On a side note it's totally my fault his name wasn't included and it should have been but I thought the other guys were the only ones of value

Like I said on the draft list.. I don't care if you guys take a player like this in the draft, to me.. its too big a risk for an unproven international guy to take.. I won't be taking them at all. As I said to Drew though.. my next pick will be Jose Bautista's daughter (born in 2011) and hope by the time she is 18 she is not only cranking homers out of the skydome (the name will change back in 2021 i knows it) for the Jays who will obviously have about 12 world series titles in a row at that time.. but the MLB will allow girls to play ball as well. Welcome to the Nationals Estela Marie Bautista - RF (like dad) - TOR

LoL my stance on this is that, if the players arent signed they shouldnt be eligible. like davies mentioned, i guess bautista daughter is eligible too then? I heard lebron james jr. Is a pretty good basketball player and hes in grade 4 but is being recruited by colleges already. I may take a chanve on him in case he decides to go the baseball route

I don't think it needs to be complicated. The rules state that players signed after July 2nd are eligible for next years draft, this also goes for international players, however MLB changed the international rules allowing a group to be signed prior to July 2nd this year, Ty listed the names of those he felt would be relevant and due to the ability to sign prior to July 2nd stated they would be allowed to be drafted.
I agree it becomes a little confussing because all the I's arne't dotted with MLB and its possible some of these guys won't be able to sign prior to July 2nd, but the rule was implemented to allow them to sign on this years signing agreement making them eligible for our draft this year and not next.
Specific examples include Yasmany Thomas, he was signed after July 2nd and therefor allowed to be drafted this year, same as Soler etc. Then you get the imports, Moncada, Ibanez, Alaverz, Olivera, who were made part of the exemption.
Taking about Lebrons son or Bautista's daughter is cute but wouldnt come into play, #1 because they are American and therefor are part of the actual Draft procedures, so they would need to be drafted and signed to be eligble for our draft.
Take Jose Fernandez (The not so good one) He was detained in Cuba and therefor not part of the group which was given the waiver, so he wouldn't be draft eligible, but Guiterrez came over from Cuba and given the go ahead althoough his paperwork is yet to be complete, but he is part of the group so he could be drafted. The ability exists that he can sign before July 2nd so he is good to go if anyone wanted him.
I tried to find a list of the players who would be considered, but most just mention Moncada, Ibanez, and Olivera as they are the big three, digging deeper and you find guiterez and Alvarez who made some headlines this week.
If you see someone who you want to draft who you think is part of this group just email a mod and we will research it. Fernandez no, he is stuck in Cuba and not eligible, Ibanez and Guiterez yes as they are here and once paperwork is complete they can sign, Lebrons kid and Bautista's kid, no they would need to be drafted and signed first.

My feelings would be to allow Josh`s pick because in any new draft there are grey areas of subjectiveness that needs to be worked out through trial and error by no fault of the league. But moving forward with the draft not allow players unsigned with a team to be drafted until the following season. I think that area is so grey it can open up a pandoras box.. i personally dont want to get to round 17 and see guys picking up all stars in the japanese leagues hoping they will play for the major leagues in 3-5 years...
Just my thoughts...

Why hasn't anyone drafted Vlad's son yet?!?!? This rule is so lax. I knew we'd run into trouble with this.
Seriously, these guys should have gone into next years draft. They would have made those picks next year more valuable which would have helped the teams who might have made a mistake or two drafting and also promote trading.

Vlad's son is 15 and not eligible to sign with a mlb team before July 2nd so he would not be eligible. The MLB allowance did not include him. Vlad's nephew could be drafted though. I think he is with the Mariners? Moncada, Alvarez, Thomas, Soler, etc are all able to sign prior to the deadline for next Yeats draft or already signed. That's the difference. If Vlad's son was allowed to sign than he would be included. But at 15 he is not.

Just my thoughts... I think the answer is pretty clear, imports given the waiver to sign making them part of this years class are eligible. Determining who they are is the hard part as most of the not great ones just aren't talked about, so a couple might pop up with good workouts. I'd be open to shutting the door on the rest, but don't want to be part of an exclusion. They aren't eligible for the 2016 draft or Intl signing so they should be open to us. Ibanez and guiterez are the only two notables left I would take in the top 750. Just because they are foreign isn't what makes them eligible, its the MLB waiver allowing them to sign this year. No one complained on Soler, Thomas, Moncada, Lopez, etc but Alvarez also falls into the 2015 period, not 2016 or beyond. If someone wants to question a guy I'd suggest just asking a mod for clarification. Once someone asks we can look him up, if he is good draft him, if not like Vlad's son, we will add to The thread saying he isnt so we don't get asked again. I'm open either way. I'd even go as far as saying I'd give up Alvarez if MLB doesn't grant him his waiver. Not looking to cheat the system, but feel he is no different than Moncada, ibanez, etc. Just no one talked about him as he didn't play top league than came over here and threw 97mph so all the scouts went...whooooaaa.

Japanese players over 27 would need to be signed and than go through waivers. Anyone under 27 would have had to submit papers asking to be included in 2015. If they were not submitted they wouldnot be eligible. Kang submitted and signed with the pirates so he could be drafted etc. The Cubans were different they weren't allowed to submit papers so MLB allowed them to do it now where they lost the sanctions in Cuba with the US. So Cubans can sign before July 2nd but still need to get their waivers etc. This makes them part of the 2015 class unlike countries like Japan who had no sanctions so MLB won't let them sign late without already being deemed eligible.
(Never thought I'd be reading MLB International Signing Regulations on my weekend) haha.
