same situation as moncada, ibanez, etc with the cuban import rules. I spoke with Ty about it prior to picking, but at the time of our draft he was eligible to be signed prior to july 2nd. (I covered my vbases before moving up to take him)if Moncada, Ibanez, etc are allowed, so would Guiterrez, Alvarez etc...about 75 imports in total, only about 5 are relevant though.
from yahoo;
On that front, McDaniel says that Alvarez’s camp expects his paperwork to be done within 4-8 weeks, which should allow him to sign before July 2.

This would include him in the 2015 International signing, the same signing Moncada, olivera, and Ibanez (still unsigned) are apart of.

This is so ambiguous it should never have been allowed in the first place. These guys should have just gone into next years draft.

Agreed Drew, that's what I tried saying earlier. But then I thought we at least got it down to those 3 guys listed. Now it's like 80 guys?

Sorry Josh didn't mean to harp on your pick lol...we should probably let every one know who is/isn't available before going forward

haha, no worries Garrett I expected it to be a discussion, but wouldnt have moved up if I never thought someone else would snag him before it came to me. The new Int'l signing rules mlb passed takes in about 75 guys, of those, Moncada, Olivera and Ibanez are the big 3, in the last week Alvarez and Guiterrez have come out looking pretty good, and there is the case of the us kid who moved to bermuda or the bahamas? He moved so he could be considered an Int'l prospect and sign early and get a bigger signing bonus. Originally all would have been eligible to sign prior to July 2nd, but there are waiver issues, and paperwork problems etc with some. Ultimately though when our draft started all were eligible to be drafted, although other than the big 3 none seemed relevant. Olivera is over 27 so he has to go on waivers, but guys like guiterrez and ibanez are still available to be picked, not much beyond those guys i can find who would be considered a top 400 prospect? if anyone sees a guy and have a question though, message one of the Mods before you pick, ultimately if MLB has determined him to be a 2015 International prospect he will be eligible.
