Probably a very dumb question but what exactly is a quality start? what criteria has to be met?

6 innings with 3 ER or less I believe.

It'd be nice if they made the criteria a bit more "quality-esq" like 7 innings at least. Ah well.

So let's add one hitting cat (extra base hits) and one pitching (quality start)...

I like the XBH idea. QS might be a good one as well to balance it out.

Happy with both QS and XBH to be added.

With the quality starts, if lets say Kershaw pitches a good game, like he always does, you already get the win, probably era under 3, strike outs, etc...doesn't it just add a free category on top of ones you will likely already win if you own the pitchers who can achieve a quality start? Basically the best just get better...Just asking since I am not very familiar.
Adding extra base hits changes it up enough because it give other kind of players more value...a player like Kipnis, who only had 9 HR's last year, but had 43 doubles and 7 triples adds a new dimension and bring up value in different kind of players than a player like Nelson Cruz who hit 44 HR's, but only 22 doubles and 1 triple.
It just seems like one way, the best get even better where the other, it evens the playing field a bit and becomes more strategic...
I am fine with adding both...but I think, looking it over, I would prefer just to add extra base hits...

Some leagues use QS instead of wins. But that takes away from valuable relievers when they get wins as well as saves, K's, etc.

So do you think that we should add QS in addition to wins, etc?

i prefer to keep as is. what we have now is simple and straightforward.
alot of the stats being discussed are already being collected in other stat categories. imo theres no need to duplicate stats

QS adds a little value to middle of the rotation guys, so if your team doesn't have a couple aces your not shit out of luck. It makes it possible to find guys who can still help you. I'm fine either way but we use QS in my other leagues and I like it.

I could be wrong here, I wasn't even familiar with this before yesterday, lol...but wouldn't aces be the ones achieving a QS more than middle rotation pitchers? They generally last longer while having a lower ERA.

Of course, your aces are going to fill all cats, just like your stud hitters. QS just gives value to the rest of the decent SP, and in weekly head to head matchups you have a chance.

It adds some strategy to say so I only start my top 3 aces and go for ERA, whip...or start all 7 guys and go for K,QS

Good point, thanks! Like I said, just unfamiliar. So I say we add both, QS and XBH
