ROUND 1 PICK MAKES A LITTLE SPLASH?Jays GM Tyler Young stepped to the podium and selected 5'6 2nd baseman Jose Altuve! Surrounded by the mass media, Young was asked why he didn't take a slugger with the pick. He offered up this explaination "Jose is a special talent, he hit .341 ave, 59 rbi, and a whopping 56 sb". There's no doubt Altuve puts the Jays instantly among the leagues best in average and stolen bases, but can Altuve really be counted on to kep up that kind of production? Young was then asked what he sees for his team in round 2 and if he sees any moves coming in the future? "I think we will stick to the plan that I have always had in both my days as a hockey GM and as a Baseball GM. I always look for younger players with big upside early in the draft and then fill out the roster with older guys later on. Trade talks have been slow here but I feel they will pick up once teams realize that the players they want are being scooped up. We would love to move some pieces around, maybe even move down to gain depth in the system. We will see what happens" Live from the draft floor, I'm Jamie Campbell

ROUND 2 ADDS A TJ VICTIM TO THE JAYS DLThe Jays started the draft with a long term vision in mind for how the team would look and in round 2 they landed the ace of the staff for hopefully the next decade, Jose Fernandez.
As a 20 year starter, Fernandez posted an unbelievable 12-6, 2.19 ERA, 187 k's (172IP), and a WHIP of 0.979!!!!
At 21 years old he started 4-2, 2.44 ERA, 70 k's (50IP), and a 0.948 WHIP before needing Tommy John Surgery.
The Jays wont see Fernandez until about June 1st where he will be eased into the starting rotation and hopefully fully healthy for a second half run. There is no question that the Jays are excited to see him pitch after a surgery which many experts suggest "makes the arm stronger". ROUND 3 BRINGS SOME SMASH TO THE DOMEIn Round 3 the Jays did exactly what they wanted to do.....Add a power bat to a position seen as a weakness in the league. The Jays brass feels we got the best 3B on the market and he could easily see 35HR, 110RBI's this season smashing balls at the Dome.
ROUND 4: SPEED KILLS?With the Jays at the podium in round 4, they went back and forth on who was the right pick and ultimately settled on the Ferrari of base runners, in selecting Billy Hamilton. While Hamilton didn't post the average required by the Jays brass which puts an emphasis on getting on base, he has shown the ability to take a walk and only being 24 years old we know that even a slight increase to his OBP, will only add to the 56SB he achieved in his rookie year. Now with Altuve at 2B (56 SB) and Hamilton in CF, the Jays look to have the SB category all locked up. The Question is now: Who will drive them in? and maybe more importantly who is going to pitch for this club?
